Traffic Signal Systems and Centralized Preemption/Priority

Webinar Description

This webinar will highlight approaches to traffic signal preemption and priority that are emerging in the Smart City/Internet of Things (IoT) era. Implementation of centralized applications have been burdened in the past with low bandwidth communications common in older cities. These traditional traffic signal systems were built to limit the need for always on communication. In this webinar, you will learn how cities are changing their approach and rethinking the approach to signal preemption and priority.

Learning Objectives:

  • Clearly define what the difference between preemption and priority in a traffic signal system.
  • Describe choices agencies make when deciding which emergency vehicle types receive preemption.
  • Identify emerging trends in traffic signal systems that will enable agencies to consider centralized emergency vehicle preemption.
  • Describe lessons learned implementing transit signal priority and preemption.
