This webinar is a continuation in the series of Traffic Engineering Handbook's chapter related webinars.
The purposes of access management are twofold:
1. To provide vehicular access to land development along major roadways in a manner that preserves the safe and efficient movement of people and goods
2. To enhance local mobility through network and site circulation planning best practices and attention to intermodal connectivity within urban cores, activity centers, and neighborhoods.
Experience has shown that what constitutes effective access management varies by roadway classification, land use context, and the sociocultural or institutional characteristics of the area where it is practiced. For this reason, no single set of guidelines or "ideal" process can be readily defined for all situations.
The webinar will review the basic principles and documented benefits of access management, and provide an overview of contemporary professional practice, including compatibility with multimodal objectives, programmatic guidelines, policies, and regulations, and public involvement.
