This 10-part Road Safety Fundamental Webinar series highlights various aspects of road safety as part of ITE’s continued focus on Vision Zero and the goal to reduce and eventually eliminate fatalities. Presented by experts in their field, this series will have a topic appropriate for all levels. There is a suite of introductory webinars for those not familiar with road user safety as well as modules discussing safety evaluations and safety for all road users.

Webinar Description:
This webinar provides the professionals with the basic knowledge of the statistics used in the development of the highway crash prediction models. The most common form of these models that is also used in the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) Part C, Predictive Method, is comprised of Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) and series of Crash Modification Factors (CMFs). The basic statistics behind the development of CMFs are also described in this webinar. Besides these, the webinar differentiates between project-level and network-level crash prediction models and explains the need for calibrating these models to the local conditions using the actual counts of crashes of the State/Region under study.
