RSF Series: Road Geometry and Roadside Safety

Webinar Description:
This webinar provides design professionals with the basic knowledge of the effects that design decisions can have on the safety of roadway facilities. It covers the proven countermeasures that have been shown to reduce various types of crashes. The webinar will consider safety impacts for all modes of travel as well as considering various roadway types and community context. Crash Modification Factors can help designers quantify the safety improvements from implementing countermeasures. It covers roadside safety information from the Roadside Design Guide. Roundabouts and alternative intersections have safety benefits by addressing left turns and conflicting movements, reducing the number and severity of conflicts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees of this webinar will learn about:
    • The relationship between highway design and crashes
    • Crash Modification Factors
    • The FHWA proven safety countermeasures
    • Application of innovative intersection types
    • Design elements of roadside safety in design
