Gotcha - The Evolving World of Automated Enforcement

Webinar Description:
Automated Enforcement (AE) for speed and red light applications varies greatly across the USA and the world. This webinar will bring together a variety of perspectives. Chief of Police Rob Liberati from Landover Hills MD Police Department and Sgt. McMillian from Baltimore MD PD will explore and explain how they rebuilt the AE program in Baltimore that included Speed Camera Reform Act, fee structure, limited scope, and court case law. While automated enforcement has been in use for three decades, increased interest in it's application to address safety and speed management have emerged through recommendations from the NTSB. Details of application have varied (rules, signing, definitions of what a violation is). With growing use, questions of its intent, application and consequences (equity, privacy, entrapment, enrichment) are being raised. Jay Beeber, Research Fellow, National Motorists Association, will dive into the data related to speed and red light cameras and how a focus on safety, not fees, will lead to more effective programs. Halfway around the world in Australia, where AE is common practice, Simon Grieve, Director of Road Safety from Department of Justice and Community Safety will focus on public acceptance and how to focus on safety in an AE program.
