COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The growing demand within local communities for sustainable solutions together with rapid advances in technology are changing the parking industry.
New and retrofitted parking garages now incorporate myriad sustainable technologies and programming to include energy efficient lighting, renewable energy installations, electronic wayfinding, cashless payment systems, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and more. Parking facilities, both structured and surface, are an essential and integral part of transportation infrastructure – and play a critical role in every mobility equation.
To inspire more planners, engineers, developers, and others to strive toward a more environmentally and economically sustainable future for the parking and transportation industry, the Green Parking Council developed the Green Garage Certification program. The Green Parking Council, an affiliate of the International Parking Institute, developed a field-tested road map for high-performing new and existing parking garages.
The Certified Green Garage program draws heavily on industry experience and technology to harness the unique opportunities for sustainability inherent to the parking garage. It takes advantage of connections to multi-modal systems, leverages ITS technologies, and creates the first framework of its kind to address garages as a unique building type that integrates with other transportation resources.
This webinar will review why sustainability initiatives for transportation systems and buildings must address the supportive role of parking facilities. The presenters will address the purpose, the program, and the process of Green Garage Certification, and feature case studies that demonstrate the how and the why of the program.
