On Canal Street the streetcars travel along the "neutral ground", otherwise known as a median. This private tour will also take you along Carrollton where the streetcar shares the lane with vehicles. The final stop on the Carrollton Spur is at magnificent City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Over 300 years ago, the city of New Orleans was built around the Port of New Orleans. Port NOLA, a state agency, drives economic prosperity for our region and beyond. There's no better way to truly grasp Port NOLA's regional economic impact and our connection to global markets than to see the vibrant working riverfront for yourself. The tour, given on the Port's General Kelley Fireboat, will showcase all our operations and infrastructure-from warehouses to gantry cranes. Please note this tour will include leaving the dock on a boat so it will take up the full time.

Description
This is a technical tour of the Convention Center Boulevard Linear Park project in downtown New Orleans. The project consisted of the conversion of a four lane divided roadway to a two-lane roadway with pocket turn lanes. The reduced roadway width was used to provide a new milelong linear park. The new linear park acts as an extension of the riverfront Woldenberg Park through an area where riverfront park space is unavailable due to Port of New Orleans operations. The tour will highlight unique project features such as the multimodal Transportation Center, designated pickup/dropoff areas, active park spaces, and the innovative "safety strip."  The project's transportation design considered the various travel modes which operate within the project area, including commuters, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, taxi/rideshare, cruise traffic, and cargo freight. The tour will highlight the challenges of building the project within the City’s existing street grid, as well as the complexities of managing the efforts of a large multi-disciplinary project team including extensive AHJ coordination and project socialization.

The Claiborne Corridor is the spine of New Orleans. It spans the breadth of the city stretching east - west from parish line to parish line. As a result, Claiborne Avenue impacts many neighborhoods, with Treme being the most notable. On this tour, attendees will see how Claiborne changes character as it traverses the city, and they will get to see how the impact of the Claiborne Expressway's construction has devastated the boulevard and negatively affected the adjacent neighborhoods. Attendees will take a short hop onto the expressway to look at its condition and then proceed into Treme to look at more. Notable stops include the medical district, a Tax Increment Finance (TIF) district, Canal Street, St. Louis Cemetery No.2, the Lafitte Greenway, the Basin Street Corridor and St. Bernard Avenue. The tour will also include a discussion of Treme and the 7th Ward's historic fabric and its existing land missing landmarks.
