This is a technical tour of the Convention Center Boulevard Linear Park project in downtown New Orleans. The project consisted of the conversion of a four lane divided roadway to a two-lane roadway with pocket turn lanes. The reduced roadway width was used to provide a new milelong linear park. The new linear park acts as an extension of the riverfront Woldenberg Park through an area where riverfront park space is unavailable due to Port of New Orleans operations. The tour will highlight unique project features such as the multimodal Transportation Center, designated pickup/dropoff areas, active park spaces, and the innovative "safety strip." The project's transportation design considered the various travel modes which operate within the project area, including commuters, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, taxi/rideshare, cruise traffic, and cargo freight. The tour will highlight the challenges of building the project within the City’s existing street grid, as well as the complexities of managing the efforts of a large multi-disciplinary project team including extensive AHJ coordination and project socialization.
