Join this facilitated discussion session to learn more about new and emerging traffic control devices (TCDs) and their potential inclusion in future updates to the MUTCD. Listen to local jurisdictions’ experiences with the introduction of new or emerging TCD applications including real world examples that examine the devices' benefits, constraints, and costs associated with application.  Also, learn more about current TCD research needs and the process employed to develop TCD research statements through the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with new or emerging TCDs through a moderated discussion.

Learning Objectives:

·         Identify examples of new and emerging TCD issues facing agencies today and identify tools needed to address these concerns

·        Understand the FHWA experimentation program, the research requirements to support Interim Approvals and an agency's role in providing data to support this process

·         Understand the role that research plays in implementing effective TCD practices

·         Encourage collaboration or resource-sharing amongst those stakeholders to obtain data needed to support research requests
